I, myself cannot see ghosts. Either you see ghosts or you can't. I have no idea why this is how it is and I don't plan on guessing. My sister, mom, grandma, and my two aunts can see spirits and are psychic. I wish I was able to see ghosts, because that would be very interesting.
When my sister Melissa was very young, probably six or seven. The same sister that was in "The Shoulder Tap". She had a nightmare and so she went to my mom and dad to ask them if she may sleep in their room. They let her sleep in the crib in the corner of the room. A little into the night and Melissa could not fall asleep. Through the bars in the crib she noticed a women in the mirror. She was a young and beautiful girl with long red hair. The lady just stood there for a little while until the image morphed into an older lady.
She had black hair that was shorter than the first woman's. Melissa was in such surprise she held still and couldn't move. Then the woman changed into an old man that looked familiar to Melissa. None of the three people moved in the mirror, just stood there watching Melissa. Then it changed back into the woman with red hair, then the black haired woman, and finally the old man. Nothing happened after that.
I think my sister is one of the most interesting people I know. Maybe the ghosts were watching over her or they were just trying to communicate with a human, which are the usual things. What if the ghosts and come through her dream and were now in our world.
I don't know how the image morphed to and from different people, but does that mean ghosts have powers? They could have been different people but why would they all be seen through the mirror. Are mirrors a way for ghosts to funnel their presence. http://www.ighost.org/id76.html This Link has information about mirror superstitions. We all know the story "Bloody Mary".
One legend tells to cover the mirrors in the house when giving birth. Or else the deceased soul will become trapped or the person's reflection will be replaced with the Devil's reflection. This tradition started in the early 18th century and 19th century, and is still practiced in Greece today. This piece of information is form the link above.

The Shoulder Tap
Melissa says she did not have a bad feeling when it happened and she actually says that more often then not. You have to wonder what the spirits motives were? Was it just playing around or was it trying to get her attention. Trying to warn her of something that was going to happen. Really, ghosts have a strong influence over humans. "Since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved."(Machiavelli) Ghosts only have to tap someone on the shoulder to make them run away. What if something else happened in the room once my sister had left. Why else would the spirit do what it did, then to hide something bigger.

I recently asked my grandmother about all the incidents she has experienced with ghosts and amazingly enough, she was full of stories. Most of them took place in her old house in Bountiful. She told me about a time she walked into the kitchen and a rag burst into flame. Another time she heard loud banging upstairs when she was the only one home. She rushed upstairs and found a hammer placed on the heater with no one around. She has many more stories that all have one thing in common and that is the house they occurred in. We call my grandmother's old house the "Bountiful House", and I was told that it used to be a hospital for people with Tuberculosis. My mother and her brothers and sisters lived there for a while and they all have amazing stories to tell. One time they found bones in the backyard and started playing with them, so my grandmother hurried to take the bones away from them. One of the craziest incidents happened to my aunt while they lived in the Bountiful House. One day my grandmother heard her daughter's shaky voice calling for her in fright. She ran to her daughter, but there was nothing there. Her daughter said there was a tall man in a black suit coming down the stairs. Only, he wasn't stepping on the stairs, he was silently gliding down the stairs. My grandmother asked what he looked like. She said she did not know because his features were too sharp to tell. There are many stories to tell but only if people want to listen. I want to know if other people believe in ghosts or if they have stories also? Do you?

It is very hard to approach the subject of ghosts, especially since people can only claim they have seen them or they have very little evidence. Most people associate ghosts with people who have died in a terrible way or people who have died and are too stubborn to move on. Ghosts first came from religions promising an afterlife to where people go when they die. Ghosts are associated with culture, religion, and society, which made them very popular in the 21st century. They were used in movies and books for the soul purpose of entertainment. I believe the reason they could use ghosts for entertainment is because ghosts are not officially part of any religion. It is impossible to know what happens after someone dies, therefore it is all rumor and beliefs.
I for one, do believe in ghosts and an afterlife. Why not, people loved to be scared and having ghosts around makes life a little more scary and dangerous. Having ghosts around would make people's adventurous side surface.
My sources are www.truthaboutdeath.com/blog/id/1586/are-ghosts-real.aspx and my opinion.
